Howard the Coward

Did I ever tell you the story of Howard?
Well, Howard is well known in almost all alphabet worlds, for his unique attitude!

Howard can not walk a road not marked or planned. he drew two lines from his house to his work so he can walk inside them everyday. He has other two lines drawn from his house to the one shop he always buys groceries from.

Howard does not like surprises, he can not deal with them. He is used to plans, made by him and only him.

So oneday Howard was walking to work, inside his path, with his head focused on the road and nothing else. He felt thirsty but he kept going. The thirst was starting to annoy him and he really needed to drink some water.

Unconsciously, he took a glance to his right to see a well! Feeling very thirsty, now Howard was in a conflict with himself. He can not take one step out of the path, yet he is thirsty.
So he started blaming himself for taking that glance and seeing the well. He should have not done that. He would have been fine and just kept walking if he did not take that glance.

But what to do now?!
Howard stood there in a battle with himself, trembling, tensed! But he knew for sure that he can not take a step out!

That was when a passerby noticed Howard standing there and offered to get him some of the water from the well.

'NO! NO! please don't!' Howard shouted 'I can't I just can't'

Not only Howard could not let himself out of the path he drew for himself; but he can not allow any interference to the path. He was so obsessed with keeping everything as planned. It was safer, any interference means higher probability of danger.

He has worked so hard to get where he is, to mark these paths, he was so proud of himself.
He was not prepared for any disturbance, it was just not right!
He was not thinking about the need for the water anymore. He was only concerned with the dangers that may occur if he is to accept the change.
Howard was a precise man.
He knew what he needed and planned for it.
No risks, safer is better!

So he resumed his walk to work, he can bare the thirst!

  • Tell your little Howard if he will keep his life like this he'll loose the life it self…. We need to accept change, to accept life. We need to search for risks to get the benefit from managing it and to enjoy the fruitful rewards….

Life will say "Goodbye the greatest planner, life will not let you achieve the targets that you dreamed of and your plans will die in one day" :)

  • this is good , am with howard . you must not trust people or even life that easy .
people must always draw thier lines .... i think this is the right path to finally accept changes... you dont have to accept changes from the beginning ...
    i wish i can do this !

  • Well just as i told you "Life is what happens while we're planning other things". All we need to do is just understand and accept that all our plans are worthless if we can not live with the fact that we are hardly in control of anything.

  • X you are an idiot, if you do not accept changes rapidlly, the flow will take you away and noone will even notice your existance nor absence...

  • good one m.b, so you admit that we have to plan in order to fail...thats the only advantage you can get by drawing clear lines in your life; clarify the stupidity cloud that keep hanging around you everytime you take decision, then you can avoid these paths next time( hopefully)

    and you Y.
rapid change means either you're lost or you are a good planner from m.b point of view, me, i agree with the second one .

and by the way being an idiot means being happy :)

  • Dear X:
"If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got"
    Do you agree????????

As for the definition of idiot -from my point of view- it is to keep doing what you always used to do, and expect to go some where new or make a change in your life, carrier or even yourself...

  • What difference does it make for you anonymous...?!

  • I just read this today, I wish I had seen it earlier.

if howard was only thirsty and looking for water, something that has no feelings or a life, and he didnt want to change his path to drink some of it, then yeah, howard is an idiot, or a coward as you said which I find surprising.

However a point that i need to make:

if howard was about to change his plans with only himself to be effected then he should change them in order to satsify his needs even if it meant that he will mess up his perfect plans ,

but what if changing his plans meant effecting someone that he cares about, and negatively?

I think this still makes him a coward, right?
